Next Level Notary

I didn’t start out thinking that being a mobile notary and signing agent for the mortgage industry would help me build wealth. In fact, it was kind of the opposite. I live in a state that, up until March of this year, limited the notary fees I can charge to just $2 per signature, so it was quite far from my mind.

I knew the loan signing side of things could generate some decent income, but still, I simply used it as a side-hustle to fund my other, “grander”, business ventures. It wasn’t until every one of those “grander” ventures collapsed, that I turned my focus, full time,  to the notary gig, and it started performing better than any business I’ve ever owned. Not only does it create incredible amounts of income, but I look forward to going to work every day. I truly love what I do, and along this journey, I’ve discovered how much I enjoy sharing it with others too.

My business is my masterpiece, and I consider it somewhat a success right now. But, I think too many people put a period at the end of the success sentence, like it stops there or something. Success doesn’t stop. It’s constantly growing evolving, devolving, sliding, jumping, dipping, and rising.

Not to be cliche, but success really is a journey, not a particular destination. And the journey isn’t along some quiet, smooth, forest path like you see in the memes. You’re going to need a four-wheel drive for this ride. Things are going to go great. Things might also go terrible. Success doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with either one of them.

Often, success is tied to results in our society because those are the easiest to measure for sound bites. When people are in the “arena,” making stuff happen, this is what measurement will look like; who won; who lost; who has the most points; who has the most money; who got there first or last, etc.

But I think success has more to do with who you become by even stepping foot in that arena. That's a lot harder to measure, at least from the outside looking in. When you take risks, put yourself out there, and grow yourself to fill every role you have to play as an entrepreneur, there is an incredible shift that happens within you, from the inside out. You literally become successful because you became a person of success.

Like Tony Robbins says, “success leaves clues.” As I look back on my current business, and how it evolved, there are very specific, daily things I did to get me here. I also have a higher vision for myself and my business. It certainly doesn’t stop with notary work and training (even though I love this!). I’ve got big dreams. And to make dreams happen, you have to take action and do some major becoming. That’s been the key to everything for me. But, I am not unique in that.

These principles have been written about before, countless times in business books through the ages. I’ve never seen them adapted for the mobile notary and loan signing agent industry, which, as I’ve learned the hard way, is a shame.

This business is the perfect vehicle for wealth generation. Flexible Schedule (you’ll need that). Unlimited Income (you’ll need that too). Legitimate Business (When you’re proud, you’re loud; and that will serve you). So, no matter what your ultimate goal is, you can create an empire with your mobile notary and signing agent business.

After you’ve established yourself with consistent income, and growing relationships, it will be time to take your notary business to the “next level.” What does that mean?

Part of the “becoming” in small business will be becoming a true entrepreneur, not just a contract worker. This next level of thinking will help you create a business that is sustainable, regardless of the housing market, or global economy.

You will learn to leverage. You will diversify. You will create. You will be a Next Level Notary.

I warn you, the rest of the articles in this series are not for the faint of heart. They’re also NOT for the new notaries, just starting out, without consistent income. If you are new, focus on the basics and create income while building relationships. Do NOT overwhelm yourself with Next Level Thinking when you’re still at the first few levels. This can work against you.

On the other hand, if you’re ready to commit to making this happen, burn the ships, and go all Next Level Notary, then by all means, read on.

Below you will see the top thinking for tomorrow’s Next Level Notary. In the coming days, I’ll release specific, and actionable techniques to move you forward to your own definition of “next level.”

Principle #1- Commitment, Vision, Belief

Believe it can happen. Sounds cheesy, but it’s not. Belief is the first step in doing anything, but we take it for granted because most of us only do things we KNOW are possible. And, when you KNOW something is possible, it’s easy to to believe you can do it. That’s why most people just do the same things all the time. It’s comfortable and easy.

Challenge yourself to believe and decide you will make $100,000 a year in this business. Or, $200,000, or $500,000, whatever it is for you, decide to get there, and reinforce that message every single day.

Part of believing is having a vision to actually believe in. What do you want your business or your life to look like? Who do you want to be? Write it down! Every single day, write it, and re-write it. You HAVE to keep your vision front and center throughout the day, despite distractions.  Your vision statement is going to help you make decisions all day, every day. What would the person you want to be in any given situation?

Find your Roger Bannister. Prior to 1954, no one believed the human body could biologically handle running a mile in four minutes or less. It was a scientific impossibility, until Roger Bannister did it on May 6, 1954. Suddenly, the invisible barrier was broken, and runners all over the world could “spontaneously” run a mile in four minutes or less.

That wasn’t a physical restriction. That was a mental one. Decide and believe today, “I AM a multiple-six-figure mobile notary and signing agent.” Decide today, that you will do whatever it takes to make that happen because you know your life will be better when you do.
