A Notary Business Can Lead to Your Dream Life

I delight in watching so many notaries celebrate Notary Public Day honoring the office they hold, and honoring each other too. Post after post, event after event, demonstrates the camaraderie, love, and respect that make this industry so special.

This is important work. Both for the communities served and for what the business of the notary public can do for an individual. When acted upon with reverence and gratitude, this business is life changing. I’m reflecting on that today, the 7th anniversary of the release of my very first book, Sign & Thrive, and as I approach 15 years under the “notary umbrella.”

I never dreamed that a notary business would pave the way to the publishing of a book (much less, NINE of them!). And I never dreamed I’d last that long, fifteen years. I started as a mobile notary and loan signing agent out of desperation, financially broke, and emotionally broken, after twenty-six business failures and a heartbreaking break up. Up to that point, I either quit or collapsed just about anything I put my hands on. The Midas Touch I had not.

And I quit my notary business too. Several times, in fact. But I kept getting called back. And now, through the gift of hindsight, I believe that call came from some higher power that knew this business was a vehicle destined for purpose. They knew something bigger was happening here. That this work was far more than rubber stamping documents, way before I did.

Since the early 2000s, long before I ever became, or even considered, being a commissioned notary, I've been operating with a vision statement for my life. I had a vision I recited every day, but I had no clarity on the specifics of the HOW it would happen.

It’s a dynamic, ever-evolving vision statement for my life that I've tinkered with each year, adding some, taking parts away. I'll share a few pieces of it here, in hopes that you see that what you’re building here with your notary business can take you places you are already dreaming about.

What I find validating is how so much of this vision came true, even 25 years after writing it out the first time, with no clue how it was going to happen. This is the real opportunity at hand, my friends.

Your notary business can be the pathway AND the vehicle to your dreams.

From my vision statement:

“Through disciplined DAILY habits and routines, I am a beacon of love and light that inspires people to massive action towards their dreams, keeping me in flow with the universe, clearing the path for love, opportunities, and money to pour into my life abundantly.

To become the powerful and magnificent coach I am capable of becoming, I must learn how to detach, to set my ego needs aside, and to listen deeply with my heart.

My schedule is completely free and I am able to travel anywhere and anytime I please, experiencing the culture and adventure of the world.

Through business, philanthropy, and authorship, I leave a legacy of hope, change, love, and the spirit of adventure.

Responsible wealth management allows my children and their children's children to live well and create their own dream lives with unlimited resources.

I live an adventurous life, self-confident, financially secure, and light-hearted.

I travel the world, meet interesting people, and write the words that touch, move, and inspire my readers.

Unlimited Love. Unlimited Wealth. Unlimited Life. I am ready.”

Mind you, I wrote that when I was in my early twenties, when my bank account, IF I even had one at all, was usually in the negative, with no successful businesses, and an inability to keep a job for more than a few months at a time.

I didn’t know that the decision to be a notary public, and to follow the promptings along the way-the calls to write, to create, to collaborate, and to blaze those new frickin’ trails I so love to blaze, would lead to my dream life-the one from that vision statement I read to myself each day.

And that’s what I’m grateful for. This wild ride and all the beautiful people I get to meet along the way. What a journey to share with you.

My mentor once told me that the greatest demonstration of gratitude is in how you spend the time you have each day.

Think about that for a moment.

If you’re truly grateful for this business, the responsibilities you have, for the customers you serve, then the greatest demonstration of that gratitude is in what you spend your time doing for your business and your dreams.

You have to love yourself enough to do the work it takes to let your business grow. That’s how you help more people. And that’s how you make more money. And that’s how you build a business that thrives no matter what.

Which is how dreams are made.

There really is something bigger available to you here. Something miraculous, even. That decision to not only become a notary public, but to let it be all that it can be, despite what others said was impossible, despite the inner critic’s questioning, “who do you think you are,” was nothing short of a miracle for me.

This business changed my life, from the very first stamp, to the ninth book, and I love to share it with you. Thank you for the opportunity to do so.

Happy Notary Public Day, my friend.
