The “Tell Everyone” Policy

Sep 17, 2025

One of the biggest mistakes I see new notaries make is also one of the simplest to fix. They start a new business with excitement and possibility swirling around them, but they don’t tell anyone about it.

I get it. Sometimes it feels awkward. Maybe you don’t want to sound salesy. Maybe you think people won’t care. Or maybe you assume that your friends and family just aren’t your ideal clients.

But here’s how this world actually works: we almost always already know the exact client we need to get our dream results. And if we don’t know them directly, we’re usually one introduction away.

That’s why I created what I call the “Tell Everyone” policy.

If you want traction in this business, if you want confidence and income now while you’re still figuring out everything else, you have to spread the word about what you do.

Not once. Not vaguely. Not only in a social media post that gets buried under cat memes and political rants.

I mean really tell everyone.

That means:

  • Posting consistently on social media (and remember, in my last issue we talked about those abysmal numbers on reach, so just know that social media alone won’t cut it).

  • Sending direct texts or messages to people you know.

  • Talking about your business in conversations, at social events, and community gatherings.

  • Using the stacked networking strategy we’ve covered here before.

  • Sending out emails or even family newsletters.

  • Sharing your “why” along with the services you provide.

Here’s the thing...

People want to support you. But they can’t do that if they don’t know what you do.

For the newbies reading this, take this as your green light. Don’t wait until your business cards arrive or your website looks perfect. Start talking now. Your future clients are already within reach, and your confidence will grow as soon as the phone starts ringing.

And for the veterans, maybe you skipped this step years ago, or maybe you’ve let it slide over time. It’s never too late to reintroduce yourself and your services. Many of your contacts don’t even remember what you do. A quick “By the way, here’s what I’ve been up to lately” can spark opportunities you didn’t expect.

This doesn’t have to be pushy. It’s not about hard selling. It’s about letting people in on your story and giving them the chance to connect you with someone who needs you.

Action Steps

  1. Make your list: Write down at least 10 people who don’t know what you do, or who haven’t heard from you in a while.

  2. Reach out: Choose one or two of the scripts below and send them today.

  3. Keep going: Make this a weekly habit until it feels natural to always share your business story.

Sample Scripts

For friends and family

“Hey [Name], I just launched my mobile notary business, and I’m really excited about it. If you or anyone you know ever needs a document notarized, I’d love to help.”

For acquaintances or old contacts

“Hi [Name], I wanted to share something new—I’m now running a mobile notary business. If you ever need notary services, or know someone who does, I’d be grateful if you kept me in mind.”

For networking contacts

“Hi [Name], I just wanted to re-introduce myself. I help people with [specific services: loan signings, estate planning documents, apostilles, etc.]. If you run across someone who needs this kind of support, I’d love an introduction.”

Tell everyone. You might be one conversation away from your best client yet.

I teach, coach, and mentor over 800 notaries in our Skool community, "High Performance Notary," where we build habits that help you implement this kind of activity on a daily basis.
