The appointment that explains this book

Fifteen Minutes, One Client, & Paid $430.

One of Brandon's recent appointments was an expedited apostille combined with fingerprinting for an FBI background check. He was in and out in under fifteen minutes, and he kept about 70% of it.

Plenty of notaries would have handled the apostille and sent the client across town for prints. Brandon handled both, because he understood how those services fit together.

That is what this book teaches. Fingerprinting sits at the center of the services you already know (or have been meaning to add), and it connects them into one smart business.

The Notary Umbrella

Fingerprinting is the service that ties your whole menu together.

Most business owners only ask how to get more customers. Bill teaches three questions, and fingerprinting gives you a strong answer to all of them.

Question 1

How do I get more customers?

Healthcare, legal, financial, security, education, cannabis, and federal contractors all require prints by law, usually on a deadline.

Question 2

How do I earn more per appointment?

Pair prints with an apostille, an FBI check, or a mobile convenience fee while the client is already sitting across from you.

Question 3

How do I earn more per client over time?

Archive programs, renewal reminders, and referral arrangements turn a one-time stop into years of business.

The anchor

Ink fingerprinting

Low startup cost, cards that cost pennies, and margins around 90%. You can charge $45 to $100 per card set, plus a travel fee for mobile work.

High margin

FBI background checks

Immigration clients need them for visas, citizenship, and international jobs. It needs no special equipment beyond the ink kit you already own.

Natural pairing

Apostille and embassy legalization

International clients often need their documents authenticated too. You handle both in one visit and the client gets one less errand.

Referral partner

Drug testing

Drug testing companies serve the same employers during the same onboarding process. Partner with them for referrals, or add testing to your own menu.

Recurring revenue

LiveScan and print archiving

Store a client's prints on file and produce new cards when they need them. Brandon built his archive program around travel nurses, who need prints in state after state.

Scale

Partner collection sites

Place a system inside a shipping store, an office supply shop, or a drug testing facility. You share the revenue and grow without paying for another office.

You're closer than you think

If you run a notary business, you've already built half of this one.

You already know how to run a service business. You show up on time, verify identity for a living, and make people feel confident about paperwork they don't understand. Fingerprinting clients need exactly that.

Bill spent years in the mortgage industry, and here's what he loves most about fingerprinting: it isn't tied to interest rates or housing markets. When loan signings slow down, nurses still renew their licenses and attorneys still get admitted in new states. Employers keep onboarding new hires through every kind of economy.

  • A scheduler and a booking workflow
  • A Google Business Profile and a website
  • A mobile kit and the habit of showing up prepared
  • Relationships with attorneys, title offices, and HR teams
  • Experience checking IDs and filling out official forms

The book moves quickly past the setup you already have and spends its time on the craft, the workflow, pricing, marketing, and scaling.

How it started

An ink pad, a hospital break room, and a “closed” state.

Brandon Edwards was a CT tech in Houston when his license renewal sent him looking for a fingerprinting location. He found exactly one convenient place in the fourth largest city in America. The guy behind the counter also prepared taxes, rented mailboxes, cut keys, and sold lottery tickets and incense.

Brandon got his notary commission after finding Bill on YouTube. Then he bought ink supplies and started rolling prints for nurses between patients. Traveling doctors paid for the cards and paid extra for the convenience, and they kept coming back every time they picked up a license in a new state.

Identogo, the largest company in the industry, turned him down on the day he was supposed to sign. He calls it one of the best things that ever happened to his business. Today he runs a multi-state operation that has generated millions of dollars, with clients whose needs reach Japan, Saudi Arabia, London, and Canada.

“Texas is considered one of the most closed states in the country for this industry, and I've generated millions of dollars in this business here. If it can be done in Texas, it can be done anywhere.”
Brandon Edwards, co-author
The myth that keeps this market open

“My state is closed.”

This is the objection the book hears more than any other, and it's the reason so few people are doing this work. A state contract covers who transmits prints electronically. It has nothing to do with who is allowed to roll them.

Every “closed” state's contracted vendor publishes its own mail-in card process. The book calls it The Open Door, and it gives you a fully legal lane to offer fingerprinting wherever you live. The book walks you through exactly how it works.
